Help for Sue

One of our members – Sue Wolfendale is looking for support in a run for her chosen charity. Please read Sue’s story below, and click on the link to her Charity page……..

Dear Friends,

I hope you are well! You may not have heard from me for a while but I make no apology for contacting you out of the blue on this occasion. You see, I am going to do something a bit out of the ordinary (for me) and I am hoping you would be so kind as to support me in my project.

I have recently been trying to keep fit and healthy in the face of advancing age (Big Zero this year) and am trying to get better at jogging. I have never been much of a runner – police training was only ever a mile and a half – so I have set myself a goal to participate in our local Christmas 5-kilometre event, the ‘Llandudno 5K Santa Run’. This will take place on Saturday 7th December, and I will be running to raise funds for ‘Change Step’, a Wales-wide service for forces’ veterans.

So far I have managed to complete our local Park run a few times so I know I can actually last for 5 kilometres. I aim to get my time down below 28 minutes, but for this run my style will be cramped somewhat by having to run in a Santa suit!

I have worked with, and played music with, many ex-forces veterans over the years, but not all service personnel succeed in adapting so easily to a new civilian life. Some may be affected by injury or PTSD, others face challenges in finding employment or a purpose in life after leaving their service community. Sadly, some take refuge in alcohol and other substances which affect their health and their families.

Change Step is a programme delivered by CAIS, a charity based in Llandudno, and supports those seeking help for problems encountered as a result of military or operational duty. The service is delivered by veterans for veterans. The programme offers peer support, training opportunities and signposting to relevant health and welfare services.

I would be really grateful if you would visit my Just Giving page:  and donate a few pounds to enable Change Step’s fantastic peer mentors to help more of their colleagues. Or if you are in the Llandudno area on Saturday 7th December, why not come along to the Promenade and watch the event? Your support in either case will be much appreciated.

Thank you!

  1. This is a very worthwhile cause that Sue is undertaking this run for. To all our members, please dig deep and support her and the charity she in turn is supporting. We wish her well for the event, and the thoughts and prayers of our members will be with her during her challenge.

    Dear Friend,

Just a note to update you about the success of my Santa Run last Saturday…
Yes, I survived! Made it to the end without having to walk, in a time of 30 minutes and 15 seconds.

Many thanks to all my supporters who have more than doubled the target I set for fundraising for Change Step – the total raised is now over £450!

You can see pictures of the event on my JustGiving page, 👍🥳
The funds going to Change Step will help to support service veterans and their families who are struggling to find their way in a civilian environment. At the Santa Run I was talking to a police officer who said she had had to deal with the suicide of just such a veteran only last week: the need is there, and Change Step’s peer mentors can really change lives.

Once again, many thanks for your support. May I wish you and your family all the very best for Christmas and the New Year.
